Your right to accessible health and care information

Right now, poor implementation of the NHS Accessible Information Standard in England is putting blind and partially sighted people’s health, safety and independence at risk.

Write to your NHS trust to request information in the alternative formats you need and to ask for the Standard to be fully implemented in your area.

The Accessible Information Standard requires NHS and publicly funded adult social care services to provide information in accessible formats (such as large print, email, braille and audio) for people with communication needs.

Despite this, RNIB research in 2022 found that 77 per cent of people with accessible information needs rarely or never received information in alternative formats.
