Act Now: Protect vital benefits for blind and partially sighted people

Devastating planned changes to the benefits system could strip many blind and partially sighted people of hundreds, even thousands, of pounds each year.

“PIP is my lifeline. It helps me stay independent.”

UK Government plans include making Personal Independence Payments (PIP) tougher to access, as well as a host of other changes to health and disability benefits.

But without this support, many people with sight loss will struggle to afford essential mobility aids, home adaptations, assistive tech, and transport - exactly the things which people need to live independently and with dignity.

We can’t let this happen.

Join us now in calling on your MP to protect the benefits which enable blind and partially sighted people to live independently.

The proposals will affect parts of the UK differently, with the implications for Scotland yet to become clear.

The changes announced include:

  • Tougher rules to receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which is meant to help meet the additional costs of disability in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • Changes to the rates of the health element of Universal Credit.
  • Changes to what under 22s can receive.
  • Knock on impacts where people no longer qualify for PIP, such as loss of Carer's Allowance for someone else in the household.
